About Us

In 2017, Denise Rohan of Wisconsin was elected as the first female Veteran to lead the 100 Year old American Legion Veterans Service Organization.  In recognition of the unique needs and challenges facing female Veterans, at the 101st Department of Pennsylvania state convention there was unanimous approval for a Women Veterans Committee to promote awareness, establish programs, increase membership, and facilitate partnerships between women Veterans and the community.

Our Mission

Transitioning from active duty for women veterans is far different from our male counterparts.  While the VA has made significant advancements in women veterans health care throughout the VA health-care system, there is still room for improvement.

The American Legion wants every woman veteran who walks through the doors of a Post or a VA medical facility to feel that it was designed with them in mind. We are committed to advocating on behalf of female Veterans through education, training, transition assistance, employment guidance and ensuring access to physical, mental and financial benefits.

According to VA reporting, Pennsylvania is home to approximately 800,000 of the nation’s 20 million Veterans.  About 55% of those Veterans are age 65 or over.  And about 25% are Gulf War or Post-Gulf War Veterans.

Female Veterans are the largest growing demographic, recently surpassing the 60,000 mark.  Indeed, the American Legion of Pennsylvania has seen an increase in Legionnaire membership of 29% this past year.

Our Primary Goal is to find all Deceased women veterans in the state of Pennsylvania and then input and update our databse.

Our secondary goal is to find ALL Veteran women living and deceased and input this information into the database.

Once this has been done we intend to move forward by spreading the word about how to input information into the Women Veteran’s database correctly. We will also send this information out to ALL female veterans in All states.
